In Doha, joint body to reduce civilian casualties discussed

DOHA (Pajhwok): Afghan and Talibaninfo-icon representatives during their talks in this capital city of Qatar on Sunday drew closer to reaching an agreement on formation of a joint committee to reduce civilian casualties.

Kicked off today, 60 people, including a 17-member delegation of Taliban and political heavyweights from Afghanistaninfo-icon, are attending the two-day intra-Afghan dialogue.

One of the meeting participants told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban representatives and the political elites, civil and womeninfo-icon rights activists talked about the formation of a joint committee to help prevent civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict.

The participant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said almost all taking part in the discussion were agreed to the idea. He said the talks took place in a cordial atmosphere.

Another participant said Asila Wardak from Kabulinfo-icon proposed naming one of Afghanistan provinces as a “peace zone” for holding talks about peace instead of holding such talks in Qatar, Germany, Russia and Pakistaninfo-icon and other countries.

The source said a majority of the meeting participants agreed with her proposal. The meeting on its day first also talked about recent civilian casualties in Ghazni, Maidan Wardak and other provinces.
