12 Taliban, 4 security men killed in Ghor clash

Jul 10, 2019 - 21:04

FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): A dozen of Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed including a key commander and several others wounded during an overnight clash with security forces in Tolak district of central Ghorinfo-icon province, an official said on Wednesday.

Four security personnel were killed and a sixth wounded in the clash that erupted after the insurgents stormed security posts from various directions on Tuesday night, said Ghor police spokesman Sami Najad.

He said the slain Taliban fighters included their red unit commander Mualvi Zarif. He said Zarif, deemed as the most dangerous rebel commander, was killed in an airstrike.

The police spokesman said the Taliban had been defeated and the Afghan forces were fully in control of the district.

However, officials at the Ghor civil hospital said they had been delivered six wounded security personnel from Tolak district last night.

Provincial council deputy head Abdul Rahman said 25 Taliban militants including commander Zarif and shadow district chief for Tolak district Mualvi Kazim had been killed in the last night airstrike.

The Taliban, who stormed and captured some villages under government control in the district the previous night, have so far said nothing in this regard.
