GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty couples from poor and deserving families on Thursday tied knot at a mass marriage ceremony organized by traders in southern Ghazni province.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry president for Ghazni, Abdul Matin Qalandari, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the aim of the mass marriage was to discourage extravaganza weddings and assist poor couples.

He said due to support of the chamber of commerce and some businessmen, the mass marriage ceremony was organized for couples who had been unable to afford their wedding costs.

He said the couples were chosen in a survey conducted by Sadida charity foundation. “I urge traders to continue their support so we can arrange more such events.”
