Bumper wheat harvest brings smile to Logaris’ faces

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Farmers in central Logar province say they are pleased with this season’s wheat yield which surged by 40 percent over last year’s produce.

Agricultureinfo-icon Director Abdullah Tasal told Pajhwok Afghan News wheat crop was cultivated on 22,550 hectares of land across Logar last year, producing 62,000 tonnes of wheat, despite natural disasters and diseases.

He, however, said this year’s yield jumped to 86,000tonnes from the same land, giving credit to proper protection and care of the crop.

Rafiullah, a farmer in Ali Khan Kala village of Pul-i-Alam, said: “I cultivated wheat on three acres of land this season and collected 40 mound extra yield compared to last year’s.”

He, however, said this year’s wheat price was low in Logar as seven kilograms of wheat was accounted for 170 afghanis.

Noor Ahmad, a farmer in Mohammad Agha district, said vegetable yield was also good this year.

“I cultivated six acres land of land this year as enough was water and I used improvised seed and urea and I harvested double yield,” he said. He said farmers in Logar were happy with their agriculture harvests this year.
