KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Sixty-five percent of Afghan cricket lovers support the appointment of Rashid Khan as Afghanistaninfo-icon’s national team captain after a dismal show in the Worldinfo-icon Cup.

Ahead of the World Cup, Gulbadin Naeb was appointed as new captain for the national squad replacing Asghar Afghan, a move that drew strong criticism from senior players like Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi.

After the unexpected performance in the World Cup, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced Rashid Khan as new captain of the side and Asghar Afghan as vice-captain.

Rashid Khan on his social media handler thanked the cricket board for handing him the captaincy.

Pajhwok Afghan News on its Facebook page, which has over 1.6 million followers, organized a survey regarding the appointment of Rashid Khan as captain.

Over 15,000 people shared their views in the online survey, with more than 6,000 showed participants welcomed the appointment of Rashid Khan as captain and over 4,500 people showed disagreement.

According to the survey, 65 percent participants showed agreement with Rashid Khan’s as captain while 44 percent showed disagreement.

Over one hundred persons shared their comments, in which some supported Rashid Khan and some criticized him.

Naqibullah Eani, one of the social media activists, wrote: “It is a good decision that Rashid Khan is appointed captain of the national side. Let me congratulate Rashid Khan and then the entire nation. He is a young and talented player. I wish him more successes,” he said.

But Attaullah Mukhles, another user, said it was not a wise decision because during captaincy Khan could feel pressure and may not perform up to the mark.
