KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): More than 350 poor families have received food and cash assistance on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s independence in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Sunday.

Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi hailed independence as a legacy of Shah Amanullah Khan and other Afghan leaders’ sacrifices and courage.

“One hundred years ago, the people of Afghanistan won independence at the cost of their blood. We inherited that legacy. All Afghans shall respect the sacrifices, handwork and commitment of their leaders,” he remarked.

The governor said on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence, four hundred million afghanis had been distributed to 385 impoverished families.

Widows, orphans, the disabled, less fortunate people and war-affected families had received assistance, he added.

Farid Ahmad, one of the aid recipients, said he had been forced to flee his home in the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of the province.
