JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A laboratory to test quality of construction materials has been set up by the National Standards Administrative in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Sunday.

Officials said the laboratory costing 48 million afghanis was the first of its kind in the province.

Governor Shah Mohamood Maikhel and a number of government officials attended the laboratory’s opening ceremony.

Khwaja Javed Sediqi, the National Standards Administrative technical deputy head, told the gathering that the laboratory would test 160 types of construction materials coming to the country.

Governor Maikhel hoped the laboratory to provide facilities to traders and stop corruption and present quality materials for the countrymen.

He thanked the National Standards Administrative officials over creating the laboratory and hoped the laboratory would bring transparency to the process of examination of construction’s materials.

Dr. Mukhlis Ahmad, a trader, expressed his happiness over the development and urged the government to establish a six-laboratory network in the province to comprehensively address traders’ problems in this regard.

Israullah Murad, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the laboratory should be used only for assessing construction materials and the officials should pay strong attention to this matter.
