PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): An Afghan child has got a new lease of life with removal of a 2.5 kilogram tumour from his brain by a Pakistani doctor.

The highly complicated surgery was performed at a private hospital in the picturesque northwestern city of Abbottabad.

The seven-year-old child who underwent the successful operation hailed from southern Helmand province, the neurosurgeon said.

Dr Abdul Aziz was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune that the procedure had been termed extremely complicated by Indian and Turkish neurosurgeons.

The brain tumour weighed two and a half kilos and had already harmed an eye and an ear of the child, who is currently receiving medical and his condition is improving gradually.

“Experts [from India and Turkey] had declared this surgery extremely difficult and complicated, but we proved that it was possible,” Dr Aziz added.
