KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The administrative head for the Wakhan district of northeastern Badakhshan province has been suspended for abusing a foreign tourist.

Abdul Maroof Khairkhwa’s suspension comes nearly three weeks after a complaint was lodged against him for abusing an Australian tourist.

Nek Mohammad Nazari, spokesman for the Badakhshan governor, Tuesday confirmed receiving the complaint from the victim.

The victim submitted her complaint to the Border Police, Nazari said, adding the incident happened after the Australian woman arrived in Wakhan from Tajikistan.

Abdul Maroof Khairkhwa termed the allegation as a conspiracy against him and said the Australian woman arrived in Badakhshan along with her family almost two months back through Tajikistan.

He said so far the Australian tourist had registered no compliant with any Afghan official but the compliant had been dispatched from Tajikistan.

According to him, Tajikistan wanted to reduce the number of tourists visiting Pamir.

A delegation has been constituted to investigate the issue. Findings of the probe would be shared with the media, promised the official.
