15 Taliban commanders killed in Herat operations

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Fifteen Talibaninfo-icon commanders have been killed and another 23 wounded during security operations in western Herat province, officials and residents said on Wednesday.

The governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News 15 Taliban commanders, including the group’s chief for Pashton Zarghon district Mullahinfo-icon Safiullah Chapat, had been killed.

Jilani Farhad said 23 militants were also wounded during operations in Pashtuninfo-icon Zarghon, Oba and Chasht districts.

Eastern districts of the province were also cleared of Taliban militants’ presence, he added.

Ghulam Shah, a resident of the provincial capital, praised the security forces’ recent advances but criticised their hasty departure after the operations.

He said the militants were coming back once the security forces leave the areas cleared. The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
