KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghanistaninfo-icon’s Journalist Safety Committee (AJSC) on Thursday voiced frustration over 45 incidents of violence against journalists taking place during the first six months of the year.

A report the committee released on Thursday blamed 20 incidents of violence against journalists on security forces and the other 25 on militants.

The incidents included three murders, six incidents of injuries, five torture, 19 disgrace, 10 threats and one illegal arrest.

The report added 15 of the incidents took place in southeastern provinces deemed as dangerous in the report during the first six months.

Najibullah Sharifi, AJSC head, said it was a matter of grave concern that 45 incidents of violence against journalists were registered during the first six months of the current solar yearinfo-icon but it showed a 50 percent decline in violence against journalists compared to the corresponding period of last year.

“Our registered figures which are authentic incidents of violence against journalists show the perpetrators of these incidents still pose threat to journalists in Afghanistan,” he said.
