Commandos suffer casualties in Farah ambush

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces have suffered casualties and eight tanks have been destroyed as a result of an insurgent ambush in the Bala Baluk district of western Farah province.

A supply convoy -- heading to Herat and Farah provinces from southern Kandahar -- came under ambush in Tut Chakab village on Saturday night.

An eyewitness, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News five security personnel, including a battalion commander, were killed and 11 others wounded.

He said the bodies and the injured were evacuated by a helicopter to Herat province. Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

Hayatullah, a security official, said seven tanks were damaged. He acknowledged casualties among the commandos, resulting from a series of blasts.

Meanwhile, Talibaninfo-icon claimed inflicting huge casualties on the security personnel and damaging several tanks.
