KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Presidential Palace in Kabul on Sunday said recent talks with Pakistaninfo-icon were ‘productive’ and Prime Minister Imran Khan saw ‘a stable, democratic and peaceful Afghanistaninfo-icon’ in the national interest of his country.

Sediq Sediqqi, a Presidential Palace spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that major issues needed detailed discussions and follow ups.

Last month, President Ashraf Ghani accompanied by top ministers and officials, visited Pakistan and held a wide-range of talks with Pakistani leaders.

“On the ground, nothing has changed as yet. The test for the Afghan people and the government will be the momentum towards genuine and lasting peace and will be a linear process for normalization between the two sovereign states,” said Sediqqi.

He said terrorism was an existential threat to both countries and to the worldinfo-icon, a credible and verifiable agreement in this area was essential for building trust and mutual confidence.

The presidential spokesman expressed these views at a time when Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army Chief Gen. Qamar Bajwa are in Washington for talks with American leaders.

The talks, according to reports, will be mainly focused on the Afghanistan peace process.
