Khalilzad set to resume peace talks with Taliban

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The US special representative will travel to Afghanistaninfo-icon and Qatar from July 22 to August 1 to facilitate a peace process that ends the conflict in Afghanistan.

The Department of State in a statement said Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad would consult closely with the Afghan government on next steps in the peace process.

The US diplomat will talk to Afghan leaders on identifying a national negotiating team that can participate in intra-Afghan negotiations.

Khalilzad will also meet representatives of civil societyinfo-icon, including peace advocates and womeninfo-icon’s rights groups, to further encourage broad participation in the peace process.

In Doha, where American and Talibaninfo-icon representatives have held several rounds of peace parleys, the US envoy will resume talks with the militant movement.
