Top US, British commanders renew Afghan forces’ support

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Top US and British military commanders during their meeting with Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday reassured their countries’ continued long-term support to Afghan security forces.

A statement from Abdullah’s office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that the CEO and US Joint Chief of Army Staff Joseph Dunford and British Joint Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Patrick Sanders met in Kabul today.

Dr. Abdullah welcomed the two security officials and thanked for their and their allies’ cooperation with Afghanistaninfo-icon.

He termed the current political and military relations and cooperation of the two countries with Afghanistan as ‘convincing’ and called for continued fight and support for fighting terrorism.

The Talibaninfo-icon failed to reach their goals of overrunning big cities despite carrying out violent attacks and instead suffered huge casualties and losses, he said.

Abdullah said a stable and just peace was the demand of all people of Afghanistan. He appreciated international allies of Afghanistan for their efforts at advancing the Afghan peace process.

Joseph Dunford appreciated the sacrifices of Afghan forces in fighting against terrorism. He said the return of peace in Afghanistan was a priority in US programs.

He said there were strong links between the military forces of the two countries following years of joint fight and cooperation.

Lt. Gen. Patrick Sanders also assured his country’s continued support with the Afghan forces.
