7 ALP personnel, insurgent commander killed

AIBAK/CHARIKARinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least seven Afghan Local Police personnel and a militant commander have been killed in a clash and a blast in Samangan and Parwan province, officials said on Saturday.

Mohammad Hashim Sarwari, deputy provincial council chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Talibaninfo-icon stormed security check-posts in the Taikhonak area of Aibak, the Parwan capital, on Friday night.

He said seven ALP officials were killed and seven others wounded in the ensuing clash between the security personnel and the insurgents.

A resident of the area, speaking on condition of anonymity, said several local policemen were killed as rebels attacked security check-post at around 11pm.

Police spokesman Munir Rahimi confirmed the overnight clash but said nothing about casualties. But the Taliban said the security forces had suffered heavy casualties.

Dr. Gul Ahmad Qureshi, the public healthinfo-icon director, told Pajhwok three injured people were evacuated to a clinic in the area.

Three other injured individuals were brought to the zonal hospital in critical condition, the director added.

In Parwan, a Taliban commander was killed by his own bomb that exploded in the Darazgird area of Shinwari district on Saturday morning.

The governor’s spokesman, Wahid Shahkar, said the militant wanted to plant the remote-controlled bomb on a road. But the device went off prematurely and killed the commander and injured two of his associates.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
