GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Four pro-government forces and two policemen were killed as a result of a car bomb and a clash in southern Ghazni province on Sunday, an official said.

Mohammad Arif Noori, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News a vehicle was used in a suicide attack on a checkpoint of public uprising members in the Sarfaraz Qala area of Aab Band district.

He said four pro-government personnel were killed and 10 others wounded in the assault, which happened at 4am. The security personnel had information about the attack and thus they were out of the base.

Saeedullah, a resident of the district, said four uprising members, including their acting commander Niamatullah, were killed and 14 others wounded in the massive bombing.

Elsewhere, two policemen were killed as a result of a clash with militants in Khogyani district, said Noori.

But another source revealed the rebels staged an attack from different directions on Khogyani district centre, killing four police personnel and wounding three others.

The source added an airstrike took place later on and casualties were inflicted on the fighters. However, he did not give exact figures.

Talibaninfo-icon spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed dozens of security forces had suffered casualties in the bombing in Aab Band district.

Six car bombings have been carried out by the insurgents in the past six months in Ghazni province.
