NIELI (Pajhwok): Scores of residents of central Daikundi province have set up a protest camp against increasing insecurity in Kajran district, blaming the government for its negligence.

More than 100 protestors, including civil societyinfo-icon activists, elders and members of the provincial council, staged a sit-in in front the governor’s house on Saturday evening.

Rahmatullah, a civil society activist, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We will continue our protest until a clearing operation against militants is launched in Kajran.”

He said the militants had been conducting attacks over the past one month in the district, where more than 70 security forces had suffered casualties during the period.

“The authorities have so far paid no attention to controlling insecurity and this lack of heed from the central government has sparked concerns among people,” he added.

Ghairat Ali Jawahiri, a member of the provincial council, also assailed the government’s negligence and warned of continued protects until security in Kajran was improved.
