Uruzgan governor vows to promote local currency

Uruzgan governor vows to promote local currency

Aug 01, 2019 - 17:22

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The governor on Thursday vowed to promote the culture of using Afghan currency in central Uruzgan province and warned people against using foreign currencies in daily transactions.

Meanwhile, residents of Tirinkot believed it was impossible to promote and implement the use of Afghan currency in the province.

Addressing reporters here, Governor Mohammad Shafiq Asadullah Saeed said the afghani was national currency and it was the duty of everyone to promote its use in the market.

He said price list had been distributed to shopkeepers, owners of hotels and markets places and they had been told to receive Afghan currency.

“I am very strict in this matter, I will arrest all those who use other currencies then the afghani,” he said.

Malak Zarin, a resident of Tirinkot, said currently 90 percent territory of Uruzgan was under Talibaninfo-icon’s control and security was needed to implement the governor’s order.

Sediqullah, a shopkeeper, said the joint commission should distribute price lists which were not harmful for shopkeepers.

It is worth mentioning that efforts had been made in the past to stop the use of foreign currency and promote afghani but these efforts went unsuccessful.
