Daikundi residents rally against mounting instability

Daikundi residents rally against mounting instability

Aug 03, 2019 - 12:26

NIELI (Pajhwok): Civil societyinfo-icon activists in central Daikundi province have staged a rally against a deadly Talibaninfo-icon attack on security forces.

The demonstrators, who accused the government of discrimination and bias, warned of continued protests until stability was restored in the province.

Two days back, 10 security personnel were killed and 15 others wounded as a result of Taliban attacks in Kajran and Patu districts.

On Friday afternoon, dozens of civil society activists and residents chanted “Police chief, awake from sleep, death to Taliban, stop discrimination and we support our security forces”.

Shaima Mohammadi, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Mothers of Daikundi are appalled by the killing of their children and residents tired of carrying coffins of youth.”

The protestors, carrying bodies of the victims, placed one casket in front of the police headquarters and the governor’s office.

She claimed militants had been staging attacks in Kajran and Patu districts for the last one month. But no action had been taken yet to prevent the violence, she regretted.

Earlier, several residents set up a protest camp as well, demanding stability and security in the province, she recalled.

More than 100 security personnel suffered casualties in rebel assaults this last month, she informed.

Mohammadi accused the government of double dealing and discrimination: “It would hear our voice if the government is not biased.”

She said they would continue their protest as long as stability was not restored to the province.
