KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday said the main task of security forces was to secure and facilitate the conduct of transparent elections, saying no security official reserved the right to support a specific candidate.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul, Abdullah termed transparent and fair elections as important and  urged the country’s military forces to maintain their impartiality in the September 28 presidential  elections and do their job based on  the law.

He said: “No security official including defense minister, deputy minister, commanders and soldiers would be allowed  to interfere in the election process but only to facilitate the transparent and fairness of the process.”

Abdullah said if a candidate expected cooperation from the country’s defense and security forces in the elections, it would be a clear violation of the law.

He said security forces had the right to cast their votes but had no right to motivate someone to work for the advantage of a specific candidate.

The CEO termed the upcoming election as a huge challenge and test for the security forces and hoped they would be successful in their task.

He stressed the importance of combating corruption in all sectors, saying fighting the menace in the security sector would be of particular importance.

About ghost security police, Dr. Abdullah said: “Unfortunately ghost police is damaging the security forces reputation.”
