KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): An Afghan surgeon has successfully planted nose to a 16-year old boy who was born without a nose.

Dr. Syed Ulfat Hashami, a plastic surgeon who works at Cure Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News, he examined Hidayatullah few months earlier and he did not have a nose.

“Initially I took photographs of the patient and shared that with doctors in the US, UK, Italy, India online. They advised me this surgery is possible but requires a huge amount of money.”

The surgeon planted a new nose to Hidayatullah in four steps and used flesh, skin and bone of the patient.

He said if this surgery was conducted elsewhere it would have cost $15,000 but he did it free of cost the boy’s parents were poor.

Hidayatullah, who was born without a nose, said since his birth he had been  facing difficulty in respiration. He was unable to smell and know the taste of food

Ahmad Khalid, the father of Hidayatullah, said he had taken his son to hospitals in Peshawar and other areas, but he everywhere asked for a huge amount of money which was beyond his reach.

“When my son was born, he did not have a nose and was facing respiration problems. He faced a lot of problems in societyinfo-icon and people called him different names because the society is uneducated and most of the people are illiterate,” he said.

He asked the government to facilitate specialist doctors and provide people better healthinfo-icon facilities so they avoid going abroad for treatment.
