Darul Aman Palace: Reconstruction works 95pc completed

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The country’s 100th independence day will be celebrated at the historic Darul Aman Palace where reconstructioninfo-icon works have been 95 percent completed.

Situated about eight kilometers southeast of Kabul City, the palace was constructed during King Amanullah Khan’s reign. The structure comprising of 16 big and small rooms first served as the king’s abode and later housed the Ministry of Defense. But the building got destroyed during the civil war.

Rehabilitation work on the historic palace was launched three years ago.

The palace reconstruction affairs in-charge, Javed Hamad, told Pajhwok Afghan News the palace’s reconstruction had been 95 percent completed and would be inaugurated by the president on the Independence Day (August 19).

He said all works at the palace had been completed and only electricity related works were being completed. The official said the reconstructions cost nearly $10 million provided by the government.
