KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty containers loaded with fresh and dried fruits weighing around 260 tons left southern Kandahar province for Pakistaninfo-icon and India on Saturday, ahead of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s 100th Independence Day.

A number of government officials and traders were present at the ceremony to see off the trucks exporting the domestic products.

Governor Hayatullah Hayat told Pajhwok Afghan News that about 260 tons fresh fruits including grapes, melons and dried fruits including raisins and almonds were exported to Pakistan and India through Spin Boldak port today in 20 containers.
He also spoke about traders’ problems and said he had received and heard complaints of traders in this regard and had shared them with authorities concerned.

He assured traders that efforts were underway to provide all relevant facilities for them in inside the country and abroad.

Haji Nasrullah Zaheer, Kandahar commerce department head, said currently five kilograms of Kandahar grapes was sold for 1,400 rupees in India.

However, he said traders struggled with problems of high tax on dried fruit exports. He urged the central government to address their problems at the earliest possible.
