US, Taliban meeting should pave way for ceasefire: Sidiqqi

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Presidential Spokesman Sediq Sediqqi on Saturday said an agreement between the US and the Talibaninfo-icon should pave the way for a comprehensive ceasefire and reduction in the violence.

Addressing reporters here Sidiqi said US Special Representative for Afghanistaninfo-icon Reconciliation Process Zalmay Khalilzad held and video meeting with President Ashraf Ghani before a white house consultation on Afghanistan.

In the video chat Khalilzad informed the president regarding recent development in peace talks with the Taliban in Qatar.

The presidential spokesman said government was waiting for the information whatever discussed in the White House meeting.

Sediqi also stressed the need for the conduct of timely presidential election and added: “We believe there should be no doubt about the elections, there is an electoral calendar and we are now at an important stage of campaigns.”
