No date set for signing deal with US: Taliban

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon’s Qatar office says no date has been set yet so far for signing a a peace deal with the the United States.

Sohail Shaheen, spokesman for Taliban’s Qatar office, said on Sunday some parts of the agreement were yet to be finalised.

He added no date had been fixed for inking the much-awaited agreement and some details of the deal were still being worked out.

Shaheen’s statement comes as some recent media reports said a US-Taliban deal was possible by the end of the current month.

After the eighth round of negotiations between the two sides, a credible source in Qatar told Pajhwok Afghan News a deal was likely in late August.

On Friday, President Donald Trump chaired a special meeting at the White House on the status of the US-Taliban negotiations.

US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad presented an update on recent developments in the dialogue.

US Secretary of State Pompeo said: "In continued close cooperation with the government of Afghanistaninfo-icon, we remain committed to achieving a comprehensive peace agreement."
