Norway fully prepared to host intra-Afghan talks: Envoy

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Afghan and Norwegian governments have discussed future negotiations between the Talibaninfo-icon and the Afghan government, an official said Tuesday.

The intra-Afghan talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government are supposed to take place after a peace agreement is finalized between the US and Taliban.

These talks are expected to be hosted by Norway in its capital Oslo.

Salam Rahimi, Afghan state minister for peace affairs, in a tweet on Tuesday said he met with the Norwegian special envoy for Afghanistaninfo-icon.

He said German and US representatives were also present during the meeting. The meeting discussed preparations for future intra-Afghan talks, he said.

Rahimi said the Afghan government was ready to end the decades-long war in a peaceful way.

On the other hand, a statement from the office of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said that the Norwegian special envoy, Per Ilsaas, also met with Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.

It said acting Afghan foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani and German and US diplomats were also present at the meeting.

The meeting discussed recent developments in the peace process and intra-Afghan dialogue being hosted by Norway, the statement said.

The Norwegian envoy said his country was fully ready for hosting the intra-Afghan negotiations.

He stressed his country wanted peace and stability in Afghanistan and was ready for any kind of cooperation in this regard.
