US provides Afghanistan more humanitarian aid

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The United States has announced an additional amount of about $125 million in humanitarian assistance to meet the needs of vulnerable Afghans

 Internally displaced persons, conflict and flood-affected communities and returnees would benefit from the assistance, USAIDinfo-icon said in a statement on Tuesday.

The funding would support life-saving activities providing emergency food, nutrition, clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

The aid will also be spent on emergency healthinfo-icon, disaster preparedness and risk reduction, shelter, protection, humanitarian coordination and logistics and non-food items, as well as relief commodities. 

“It also supports refugee repatriation grants, educationinfo-icon, livelihoods and other efforts to promote long-term integration of returning refugees.”

This brings the total US funding in this fiscal year to the Afghan humanitarian response to nearly $190 million, including for Afghan refugees in the region.

The US urged all countries to make or increase their contributions to the UN humanitarian appeal for Afghanistaninfo-icon, which is currently only 27 percent funded.
