KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Two rockets landed near an election campaign rally of presidential candidate and Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar in central Maidan Wardak province on Thursday.

As part of his election campaign, Hekmatyar addressed a gathering in Ghazi Karim Khan hall in Maidan Shahr City today.

Naqibullah Amerkhel, a participant of the gathering, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two rockets hit 50 meters away from the hall where Hekmatyar was addressing his supporters. He said a few people left the hall but most stayed until the end of the gathering.

Fazal Ghani Haqmal, HIA media member, said the rockets landed two or three kilometers away from the hall and the gathering continued normally despite the disturbance.

He said rocket attacks were common in Maidan Wardak because it was an insecure province.

But Mohibullah Sharifzai, the governor’s spokesman, denied any rocket attack took place in Maidan Wardak province today.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but   Talibaninfo-icon had earlier asked people not to attend electioneering.
