6 killed, 12 wounded in Kandahar accident

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least six people were killed and 12 others wounded as a result of a traffic accident in southern Kandahar province on Saturday, an official said.

The accident occurred in the Toro area of Maiwand district at around 7:30am, said Bahir Ahmadi, the governor’s spokesman.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the accident took place when a passenger vehicle overturned. Six people were killed, including the driver, three womeninfo-icon and two children.

The injured were evacuated to hospital, he said, urging traffic authorities to investigate the incident.

Healthinfo-icon officials say traffic accidents were the second biggest killer after the conflict in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Concerned at the increasing casualties on roads, Kandahar residents say traffic police are responsible for curbing accidents.

They believe accident would continue unabated as long as the relevant organs do not implement traffic laws with a sense of urgency.
