PRD archive digitalised to accelerate ID cards verification process

PRD archive digitalised to accelerate ID cards verification process

Aug 24, 2019 - 19:16

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Central Statistics Organization (CSO) on Friday said archive of the Population Registration Department (PRD) has been digitalised and a new centre has been opened to help accelerated and simplify the verification process of national Identity Cards (ID) verification process.

The paper ID cards verification became mandatory in 2015 after an Iranian forged an Afghan citizenship ID card to show himself as an Afghan but was exposed later.

ID cards verification process turned to a problem for people as they had to spend days for verifying their ID card.

However, CSO says that the problem has been solved with the digitalization of the archive of PRD and creation of new center for paper ID cards verification.

The center was opened today in third police district of Kabul city, near passport department.

Ahmad Javid Rasouli, head of CSO told the ceremony that this center would accelerate paper ID cards verification process.

“As electronic governance is one of top goals of the government, digitalizing archive of PRD is part of it which would simplify delivering services in this area to people, it would also accelerate ID cards verification process,” he said.

Rasouli said that the initiative would help remove bureaucracy, corruption and commissions in ID cards verification process.

In the past, a paper ID card would sent to archive to match with information in the base registry book in the archive and then it would verified or rejected, a process that took long time, he said.

Mohammad Hassan Safa, technical advisor of Passport Department said that 5,000 passports were issued on daily basis and those who had paper ID cards should verify them in the new special center.
