MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Security forces on Monday claimed killing 37 Talibaninfo-icon militants and wounding more than 10 during ground and air offensives in northern Balkh province.

Afghan National Army’s 209 Shaheen Military Corps spokesman Mohammad Hanif Razai told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban suffered the casualties in Sholgar and Chahar Bolak districts during the past 24 hours.

He said a Taliban’s center was completely destroyed during the operations in Sholgar district.

He said currently operations against militants were underway in Sholar, Chahar Bolak, Balkh districts and other parts. He said so far a number of areas had been cleared of Taliban’s presence as a result of the operations.

However, Taliban insurgents rejected the Shaheen Military Corps claims. In a statement, the Taliban said seven government forces were killed and three others wounded during an attack in Chamtal district yesterday.

The Taliban said the fighters attacked a logistics supply convoy of the security forces in Rozganyan area of Chamtal district on Sunday afternoon.

However, Razai rejected the Taliban’s claim and said only one tank of security forces was blown up in Chamtal district, leaving two personnel slightly injured.
