Russian, Indian FMs to discuss Afghan peace push

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Russian and India foreign ministers are set to meet in Moscow today (Tuesday) on issues of common interest.

Russian FM Sergey Lavrov and his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar would exchange views on a possible peace deal between the US and Talibaninfo-icon

The Iran nuclear programme and the situation in Afghanistaninfo-icon would be on the agenda, the Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman was quoted as saying by TASS news agency.

The Afghanistan situation would be addressed in detail, a spokesperson for the Externalinfo-icon Affairs Ministry in New Delhi confirmed.

“Talks in Doha are coming to a near conclusion and the outcome will be of interest to India and Russia,” the ministry official told a media briefing.

“We would like Afghanistan to be a stable and peaceful country that meets the interest of the Afghan people. We would like a peace process that is Afghan-led and Afghan-owned …”

Gains made over the last 18 years would be preserved, the official hoped, pledging to strengthen India’s relationship with Afghanistan.
