Civilians among over 50 killed in Faryab airstrikes

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Twelve civilians, six security personnel and 47 Talibaninfo-icon have been killed and 23 others, including 10 security personnel, injured in airstrikes in northwestern Faryab province, a statement from the Shaheen Military Corps said on Sunday.

Forty-seven Taliban were killed and five others injured in security forces airstrike in the Gerezwan district of Faryab on Saturday night, read a statement from Shaheen Military Corps.

District Chief Mullahinfo-icon Faizullah Rahmani said 12 civilians and six military personnel and eight Taliban were killed in airstrike in the district.

He said 12 civilians that included womeninfo-icon and children belonged to the two Tailban members.

Sebghatullah Selab, deputy head of the Provincial Council, said both sides suffered heavy casualties and the fighting was underway between the two sides.

He said the residents carried the bodies of civilians to the district centre to protest their killing but nobody was ready to speak to them.

Taliban could not be reached for comments in this regard.
