SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Two wells producing 240,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day were inaugurated on Tuesday in northern Jawzjan province.

The two gas-wells (No. 31, 37) are located in Yatimotaq area of Shiberghan, the provincial capital. Mines and Petroleum Minister Nargis Nehan inaugurated the two wells (Tuesday).

At the inauguration ceremony, Nehan said each well has the capacity to produce 120,000 cubic meters of gas in 24 hours.

She added, “We plan to invest in some other gas wells in the area to increase gas production.”

According to Nehan, the repair of the wells No. 32 and 36 will also be offered to bidders to surge their capacity to one million cubic meters of gas per day.

Efforts are underway to develop the country’s natural resources in order to create job opportunities for unemployed people, she added.

“We also plan to make a security belt around the Yatimotaq area and ensure security of workers and engineers,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Governor Lotfullah Azizi expressed his happiness over the gas wells’ inauguration in the province and urged the acting minister to continue certain projects in future.

He also shared problems of employees and engineers in Jawzjan province with Nargis Nehan on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony.

The governor said at least 450 workers and engineers of the mines department had been dismissed by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and they were now in difficult situation.

He said besides gas Jawzjan had rich cement deposits of high quality and needed some investment.

Narhis Nehan promised to address the workers’ problems at the easiest possible.

Eng. Mohammad Ayub Newand, director of pipelines for the Afghan Gas Industry department, said the newly inaugurated gas wells could generate 240,000 cubic meters of gas per day.
