KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of southern Kandahar province on Sunday staged a protest rally against what they alleged the killing of a religious scholar by intelligence forces.

The angry protestors brought and placed the slain Imaminfo-icon’s (scholar) body in front of the governor’s house in protest and demanded justice.

Mualvi Akhtar Mohammad Zafrani, one of the protestors, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) personnel had killed their imam Mualvi Asadullah after torture in the 12th police district of Kandahar City on Saturday afternoon.

He said the area residents took their imam body’s in protest to the governor’s house to seek justice for his family.

He said security forces were responsible for people’s security, not to torture and kill them.

Ibrahim Jan, another protestor, said NDS personnel arrested Mulavi Asadullah at around 12:45pm and his dead body was found at 2:00pm in hospital on Saturday.

BaheerAhmadi, the governor’s spokesman, said Mualvi Asadullah died when he was being taken by NDS personnel and was rushed to hospital.

He confirmed some imams and scholars staged a protest in front of the governor’s house. He said governor then met with a number of the protesting elders and directed the authorities concerned to investigate the incident.
