Taliban release 6 local journalists in Paktika

SHARAN (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon have released six abducted local journalists in southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Sunday.

The six media people were kidnapped on their way to a workshop by the insurgents in Zurmat district on the Paktia highway on Saturday.

Khairuddin, an abducted journalist of Kalid Radio, told Pajhwok Afghan News they were freed back by the militants late Saturday night.

He said: “The Taliban’s behavior with them was good and apologised to us at the time of our release.”

Police spokesman Shah Mohammad Aryan also confirmed the release of the six journalists. “It’s our responsibility to ensure the security of media representatives.”

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also verified the abducted journalists’ release. He said the captors freed the journalists after they were identified as media workers.

The journalists work for Pashtun Ghag, Yaran, Kalid Radio and the state-run radio.
