KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon military chiefs have pledged continued support for the Resolute Support mission, training and advising Afghan security forces.

"NATO allies and partners will continue to train the Afghan security forces," Royal Air Force Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach said on Saturday.

Speaking at the conclusion of the NATI Military Committee meeting in Ljubljana, he said: "We will help to make them stronger so they can fight terrorism and create peace and stability in their countries…”

Peach was quoted as saying in a statement from the Defence Department that the maxim "in together, out together" still appended to NATO operations in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Calling the fight against terror a challenge, he said the alliance had been playing a key role in combating the scourge over the past 18 years. It was the first and only time Article 5 was invoked.

Prevention is better than intervention, according to Peach, who said the chiefs renewed their commitment to continuing to train local forces and build the capacities of nations so they can stabilise their own countries.
