PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon may urge the United States to revive the idea of building Reconstructioninfo-icon Opportunity Zones (ROZs) on the Durand Lineinfo-icon.

The US had floated the idea of building ROZs to ensure jobs for the people of border areas during the Gen. Pervez Musharraf government.

The plan was shelved after Pakistan’s economic managers asked the US to build the ROZs in developed areas.

“Now we will re-float the idea … to ensure job opportunities for youth on both sides of the border,” and advisor to the Pakistan prime minister said.

In an interview published on Tuesday, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood said: “From those facilities, products will be manufactured and exported to the US market on zero duty.”

The process, he hoped, would not only help increase exports of the two countries but also ensure jobs for Afghan and Pakistani youth.

Dawood told The News: “We want Afghanistaninfo-icon to become industrialized. A prosperous Afghanistan is in the supreme interests of Pakistan.”
