KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon’s finance commission head Mohammad Azeem Muhseni on Wednesday alleged the Presidential Palace and the National Procumbent Commission (NPC) had turned into corruption hubs, a claim the NPC denied.

“In the past everyone would say the Interior Ministry has become the heart of corruption but currently the Presidential Palace and NPC are the heart of corruption,” Muhseni told the lower house session.

He said the NPC had been refusing to share documents of a project with lawmakers.  “I will no more participate in NPC meetings because my presence will provide legitimacy to the lower house’s representation,” he said.

Mohammad Arif Rahmani, a lawmaker from Ghazni province, also termed the NPC as heart of corruption and said individuals working in NPC were close to the president and nobody could hold them accountable.

NPC spokesman Mohammad Ramin Ayaz rejected Muheani’s and Rahmani’s allegations and said national and international observers attended all meetings of the NPC.

He added if lawmakers had evidence in support of their allegations, they should refer them to the Attorney General Office (AGO).
