FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): The Minaretinfo-icon of Jam and its surrounding areas in western Ghorinfo-icon province have been purged of Talibaninfo-icon militants following two months of an operation, an official said Tuesday.

Ghor governor’s spokesman Abdul Hai Khatebi told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban had captured the minaret, a UNESCO worldinfo-icon heritage site, two months earlier.

According to Khatebi, security forces and local uprising groups recaptured the areas from Taliban militants after attacking them from Ferozkoh side.

Karamuddin Rezazada, a lawmaker from Ghor province, said although security forces had cleared areas near the minarets, a security compound close to the historic site was yet to be recaptured.
