Taliban kill poll panel worker in Sar-i-Pul

SAR-I-PUL/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Taliban militants have killed an Independent Election Commission (IEC) worker in northern Sar-i-Pul province and three security forces and as many militants killed in northwestern Faryab, officials said Tuesday.

Naqibullah Daqiq, the Sancharak district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News militants killed Ali Naqi, the IEC worker, on Sunday.

He said security forces received Naqi’s body and it over to his family in Charuh village of the district this morning.

Mohammad Mubin, a resident of the area, confirmed the incident, saying Naqi had graduated from Law and Political Science Faculty. He was appointed as an IEC worker on the election day.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the killing.

In Faryab, police spokesman Abdul KarimYourush said three security forces and as many Taliban militants have been killed during a clash in Pashtunkot district of the province late Monday night.

Another two militants and as many security forces were wounded in the clash that erupted after the militants stormed the security check-post in Chaqmaq village, he added.

He identified the slain militants as Qari Khan Shirin, Mullah Gul Mohammad and Ansar Sakin.
