PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon has offered to help Afghan legislators and parliamentary staff enhance their capacity.

The offer was held out by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser during a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Rahman Rahmani.

The speakers met on the sidelines of the 141st assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Belgrade on Monday.

They decided to hold talks at the parliamentary level on promoting cooperation as well as evolving a trust-based strategy for fostering people-to-people contacts.

Rahmani appreciated efforts of the Pakistan government and parliament for improving the state of affairs between the neighbours.

He also commended the initiatives of Prime Minister Imran Khan in expanding the scope of cooperation by opening up the Torkham Border for 24/7 trade operations.

Qaiser invited Rahmani to lead a parliamentary delegation to Pakistan for talks on outstanding bilateral issues, including a relaxation of the visa regime.

He added the National Assembly was ready to offer its services for enhancing the capacity of Afghan MPs and parliamentary staff through the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS).
