6 ALP personnel killed in Nurisitan attack

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least six Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel have been killed in a Talibaninfo-icon attack in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Thursday.

Mohammad Saeed Momand, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed security an ALP check-post in the Pasha Gul area of Nurgram district at 3:00am.

He said in the ensuing firefight that lasted several hours both sides suffered casualties. However, he did not give specific figures.

District police chief Mohammad Jamil told Pajhwok six ALP men were killed and two others wounded in the Taliban attack.

Some ALP had been missing, he said, adding the Taliban also suffered casualties but the exact numbers were not immediately known.

Gul Ahmad, a resident of the area, said 10 ALP personnel were killed and two others wounded in the predawn assault.

Meanwhile, the Taliban confirmed the incident and claimed killing nine ALP men and capturing 13 weapons.
