Afghan kids with heart disease being treated in China

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Scores of Afghan children with congenital heart disease (CHD) have arrived in the Xinjiang Uygur region of China for free medical treatment.

The state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday the 61 Afghan children would be treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.

As part of the second phase of a project initiated by the Chinese Red Cross Foundation, a total of 150 children with heart disease in Afghanistaninfo-icon will be treated.

On July 31, 24 children reached Xinjiang and returned to Afghanistan on Aug. 14 after being treated in the People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

In the first phase of the project, Xinhua said, 100 Afghan children with CHD were treated from August 2017 to October 2018.
