Haska Mina carnage: Senate asks for national day of mourning

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon or Senate on Saturday asked the government to announce Sunday as a national day of mourning for the victims of Haska Mina bomb attack.

At least 62 people were killed and 30 others injured when an explosion happened during Friday’s prayers in a mosqueinfo-icon in Haska Mina district of eastern Nangarhar province on Friday.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. The Talibaninfo-icon, the UN, NATOinfo-icon and the US Embassy in Kabul have condemned the incident.

A statement released by the Meshrano Jirga today said that the upper house leadership board condemn the incident and ask the government, particularly the president to announce Sunday, October 20, as the day of national mourning for paying homage to the victims of the deadly explosion.

The Meshrano Jirga also sent a delegation to Nangarhar province for investigating the incident and sharing sympathy with families of the victims, the statement added.

The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon or lower house also held an emergency session today following the Haska Mina incident and said the tragedy should be investigated and the victims assisted.
