Civilian causalities on rise, half-year report soon: AIHRC

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Right Commission (AIHRC) on Sunday said civilian causalities have increased and it would share report about casualties taking place during the past six months.

Shahzad Akbari, AIHRC head, warned during a press conference in western Herat province about the increasing civilian causalities in the conflict.

However, Akbar did not provide exact figure of civilian causalities. He said all incidents causing casualties to civilians had been recorded by them and at the end of ongoing week, they would share the number of civilian causalities of the last six months.

 She said Talibaninfo-icon militants and security forces were responsible for causalities to civilians, which she called against the law and urged the warning parties to stop harming civilians.

She also termed civilian causalities a war crime, calling for the perpetrators to be investigated.

According to AIHRC, civilian causalities have increased mostly involving Taliban militants, security forces and pro-government forces.

Ghulam Hazrat, a resident of Herat City, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok, “Unfortunate civilians lose lives on a daily basis and the warning parties should ensure safety of civilians.”

A number of other Herat citizens expressed their concern about civilian causalities and called on the warring parties not to hurt innocent people any more.
