Haska Mena blast: PPM members meet victims’ kin

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Members of the People’s Peace Movement (PPM) on Monday shared their grief with families of the victims of a blast in the Haska Mena district of eastern Nangarhar province.

More than 70 people were killed and over 30 others wounded in the powerful explosion that ripped through a mosqueinfo-icon during Friday’s prayers.

The explosion triggered by a landmine which had already been planted in the mosque took place in Jodar village away from the district centre.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Iqbal Khyber told the victims’ families that they should ask the question why civilians were massacred, a statement from the movement said.

During the meeting, members of the Nangarhar Committee chapter of PPM, Khanzada Afghan, also offered condolences to the victims’ kin. He said the government-promised assistance to the victims' families should be delivered promptly.

Earlier, the government had vowed to promptly assist the victims of such incidents. But much of such aid ended up in pockets of powerful individuals, he alleged, asking the warring parties to stop the killing of civilians
