KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Businessmen in northern Kunduz province om Monday said they were facing security issues and asked the government to put pressure on Tajikistan to reopen its consulate in the province.

The traders expressed these views while addressing a gathering, in which new head and deputy head of the Kunduz chamber of commerce and industry were introduced.

Businessman Abdul Hameed Edi said. “We don’t have proper place for doing business. Robbers and kidnappers stop us on the way and the government is not serious about our issues and businesses will collapse in Kunduz completely.”

Sardar Mohammad, another businessman, asked the government to put pressure on Tajikistan to reopen its consulate general in Kunduz.

“Most of our business ties are with Tajikistan, if its consulate is reopened, it will be a huge relief for us.”

Deputy Governor Hashmatullah said the provincial government was concerned about shifting of most of businesses to other provinces.

He assured that the concerned authorities were trying to resolve all problems being faced by businessmen in order promote trade and business activities.

Tajikistan closed its consulate general in Kunduz four years back when the Talibaninfo-icon captured Kunduz City, the provincial capital.
