US Congress delegates meet Afghan commandos

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): US Congress speaker Nancy Pelosi during her visit to Kabul met with Afghan Special Forces Operations Corps in Kabul, the corps said in a statement on Monday.

The statement from the Afghan Special Forces operations Corps media’s office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the US Congress delegation led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a meeting with the Special Operations Corps commander Lt. Gen. Mohammad Fareed Ahmadi in Reshkhor Garrison on Sunday.

The statement said the two sides discussed Afghanistaninfo-icon’s security situation, bilateral cooperation in areas of educationinfo-icon and training of military personnel.

Gen. Ahmadi thanked and appreciated the US Congress delegation over various support of NATOinfo-icon with the Afghan National Army (ANA), particularly with the Commando forces, saying ANA soldiers could now defend their country.

He said security forces were not fighting against ordinary Talibaninfo-icon militants but against international terrorism. The Afghan forces needed more support, equipment and advanced ammunition and professional education from worldinfo-icon’s experienced instructors.

The US Congress delegation congratulated the Afghan security forces over their battlefield successes and thanked the Commandos forces’ leadership regarding supporting and defending their country, the statement said.

The delegation also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting NATO forces in Afghanistan, the statement concluded.
